The Summer Housing SeasonFor many, this housing season is a major indicator of what is to come with the economy. If we have another record year where house prices inflate another 20%+, it means the housing market is in full rebound and we are approaching pre-2008 values. If they suddenly plummet and lose all the ground they make, it is a sign the economy is too weak to support the recover. And some even state that specific growth in specific areas are indicators of the economy. But if you are an average home buyer, what does this have to do with you?

And the answer is, not a whole lot, honestly. What matters is whose market is it; a buyer’s or a seller’s? And I would say that values have remained about where they were in the spring, making it a great time to buy. I have seen a lot of volume this summer, as in a lot of homes selling, but I haven’t noticed a similar uptick in home values. This leads me to believe it is a good time to buy a house and an unfortunate time to sell one.

Couple the values with the still artificially suppressed interest rates and the high inventory levels, and it just further paints the picture that if you are going to buy, now is the time.
