How the Pay it Forward Promise Works

Pay it Forward PromiseMy Pay it Forward Promise is something I am very proud of. It is a way all of my clients get to give back to the local community here in Michigan, without paying a penny out of pocket. And while I explain the program to all of my clients up front, I find a lot of them confused about it when I ask for their charity of choice after closing, so I thought it might be a good idea to cover it again here.

The way Pay it Forward works is this: if you finance your home through me, I will donate $50 to any charity you choose. I have a list of 28 charities which I regularly work with, but I am willing to donate to any charity of your choice; I just ask that it in some way benefits the local community. The charities I recommend range from large, multinational organizations which have a local Detroit chapter to local charities which only focus on the Detroit area. They are spread across helping those with diseases, to helping underprivileged youths, to helping the homeless or needy. Just so long as a charity is well run, the proceeds go to helping people, and those people live in our community, I think any charity is a worthy one.

Last year, my clients and I donated exactly $5,000 to charity, and I hope to grow that number this year. I know $50 per closing and $5,000 per year is not going to change the world, but it is definitely a step in the right direction.
